Fishpass Inc. (Headquarters: Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture; Representative Director: Shigehiro Nishimura), a provider of online recreational fishing ticket systems, announced on January 7 the proposal of a new concept called "Biodiversity DX," which integrates environmental DNA analysis technology with digital technology, and the full-scale launch of related solutions.
Addressing the challenge that "what cannot be measured cannot be improved," the company aims to transform environmental surveys into accessible scientific data for everyone, establishing a new standard for corporate ESG management and sustainable environmental conservation by local governments.
Fishpass's solution is underpinned by the following three strengths:
Nationwide Network of 411 Fisheries Cooperatives: Collaboration with fisheries cooperatives across the country enables wide-area and rapid sampling.
Overwhelming Cost Performance: An in-house analysis center allows for low-cost and speedy analysis, enabling continuous monitoring.
Patented "DX Analysis Report": Provides digital reports understandable without specialized knowledge. Visualizes biological distribution and time-series changes on a digital map.
This technology can be utilized not only for corporate TNFD compliance and quantifying environmental impact in ESG management but also for local government measures against animal damage and disaster prevention. In fact, surveys have already begun in Akita Prefecture to visualize bear habitats from river water.
Fishpass states that it will continue to promote resource management based on scientific data and the visualization of local natural capital, contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.
■ ICT Startup League
A support program launched in FY2023, sparked by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "Start-up Creation Oriented Germination Research and Development Support Project."
The ICT Startup League supports startups through four pillars:
1. R&D Funding / Hands-on Support
Up to 20 million yen in R&D funding is provided as a grant. In the hands-on support, evaluation committee members who were involved in the selection process stay close to the startups after selection to promote growth. A support system akin to "fandom activities" is built, where committee members provide continuous support—such as advice on business plans and providing growth opportunities—to companies they "absolutely want to select."
2. Discovery & Incubation
We provide opportunities for learning and encounters to encourage the business growth of league members.
We also expand the base by discovering people who aim to start businesses in the future.
3. Competition & Co-creation
It serves as a field for positive competition like a sports league, where startups learn together and improve themselves to win the necessary funds (up to 20 million yen). It also offers a place for co-creation where league members collaborate to expand their businesses through various opportunities such as sessions by evaluation committee members.
4. Dissemination
We disseminate the initiatives of league members in collaboration with the media! By making their businesses known to many people, we aim to expand opportunities for new matching and chances.
