MOLTON Inc. (formerly a23s Inc.; HQ: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yasufumi Sakichi), provider of the generative AI-powered corporate legal outsourcing service "CloudLegal," announced the launch of its new feature, "CloudLegal AI Editor," on February 3. This feature operates directly within Microsoft Word.
This function is provided as a legal AI agent add-in for Word. Users can check contract clauses and create revision drafts without leaving the familiar Word interface, which is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency.
Traditionally, using legal tech services involved "switching screens"—uploading contract files to a dedicated web browser, making revisions, and then downloading them again to finalize formatting in Word.
"CloudLegal AI Editor" solves this challenge by stationing an AI agent within the Word sidebar. The main features are as follows:
Overwhelming Time Savings
AI supervised by lawyers instantly detects disadvantageous clauses or missing provisions and suggests revisions. Review time is reduced to approximately one-third (according to company research).
Seamless Operation
No web upload required. Engage in dialogue with the AI and apply revision suggestions with a single click.
Standardization of Quality
By registering specific company review standards (playbooks), it prevents variations in review quality among different staff members.
MOLTON is rolling out a "Legal BPaaS (Business Process as a Service)" model that fuses generative AI with the expertise of professionals (lawyers, judicial scriveners, etc.).
With this new feature addition, the company aims to powerfully support the efficiency of daily contract work and further promote digital transformation (DX) in corporate legal affairs. Pre-registration is currently being accepted for professionals and corporate legal representatives.
■ ICT Startup League
This support program started in FY2023, triggered by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "Project to Support Emerging Research and Development for Startup Creation."
The ICT Startup League supports startups through four main pillars:
1. R&D Funds / Accompaniment Support
Up to 20 million yen in R&D funds is provided in the form of subsidies. In terms of accompaniment support, the selection evaluators who were involved in choosing the league members continue to stay close after selection to promote growth. For companies that evaluators deemed "absolute must-haves," the evaluators themselves provide continuous support, such as advice on business plans and providing growth opportunities, building a support system akin to "passionate fandom" (Oshikatsu).
2. Discovery & Cultivation
We provide opportunities for learning and networking to encourage the business growth of league members.
We also deploy initiatives to discover those aiming to start businesses in the future, aiming to expand the base of the ecosystem.
3. Competition & Co-creation
Serving as a venue for positive competition like a sports league, startups learn together and improve themselves while competing to win the necessary funding (up to 20 million yen). Through various opportunities such as sessions by selection evaluators, we also provide a place for co-creation where league members can collaborate to expand their businesses.
4. Dissemination
We collaborate with media to broadcast the initiatives of league members! By letting more people know about these businesses, we aim to expand opportunities for new matching and chances.
