Runtrip Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Eiichiro Omori), operator of the running app "Runtrip," announced on December 1 its full-scale business expansion into the well-being and healthcare sectors.
Along with this expansion, the company announced that it has received investment from a fund operated by Mitsubishi UFJ Capital Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo) to drive this initiative.
Since its founding, Runtrip has operated SNS apps and media for runners under the mission of creating "a world where you can run more freely and enjoyably."
With this full-scale expansion, the company will develop services and products that allow users to maintain their health while having fun, using the daily habit of running as a starting point. Through this, they aim to encourage behavioral change and contribute to the optimization of medical and social security costs associated with Japan's declining birthrate and aging population.
With this financing, Runtrip will utilize the MUFG Group's expertise and network to create new value and culture.
The company has already confirmed the preventive effects on lifestyle-related diseases through continuous app usage. Moving forward, they are expected to develop healthcare businesses based on this evidence.
■ ICT Startup League
This is a support program launched in FY2023, initiated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "Startup Creation R&D Support Project."
The ICT Startup League supports startups through four pillars:
1. R&D Funding / Hands-on Support
Up to 20 million yen in R&D funding is provided as a grant. regarding hands-on support, selection committee members stay involved after selection to promote growth. A "fandom-like" support system is established where committee members who "absolutely want to select" a company provide ongoing support, offering advice on business plans and growth opportunities.
2. Discovery & Incubation
We provide opportunities for learning and networking to accelerate league members' business growth.
We also aim to expand the base by discovering aspiring entrepreneurs.
3. Competition & Co-creation
Functioning like a positive competitive sports league, startups learn together and hone their skills to win the necessary funding (up to 20 million yen). It also offers a place for co-creation where league members collaborate to expand businesses through various opportunities, such as sessions with selection committee members.
4. Promotion
We promote league members' initiatives in collaboration with media! By making their businesses known to many, we aim to expand opportunities for new matching and chances.
