DeepEyeVision Inc. (Headquarters: Shimotsuke City, Tochigi Prefecture; CEO: Hidenori Takahashi), a venture company originating from Jichi Medical University, announced on January 22 the launch of sales for "Automated Perimeter/Fundus Camera (OCT) Program AI-CO." This new medical device program aims to streamline glaucoma diagnosis and reduce the burden on patients.
"AI-CO" reads 3D scan data output from OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and displays it as a shaded 2D grayscale image. This allows physicians to efficiently compare and examine OCT images against results from automated perimeters (visual field tests).
Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness among middle-aged and elderly people in Japan. Comparing the outputs of OCT and automated perimeters is considered crucial for its diagnosis.
By utilizing "AI-CO," 2D grayscale images are output directly from OCT images, realizing greater diagnostic efficiency. It is expected to lead to early detection of disease stages and reduce the burden on patients during treatment and examinations. This product has been certified as a managed medical device (Medical Device Certification Number: 307ADBZX00085000).
DeepEyeVision is a venture company established by CEO Hidenori Takahashi, who also serves as an Associate Professor at Jichi Medical University. With the goal of returning medical AI technology born from academic research to society, the company conducts research and development to advance not only the field of ophthalmology but all medical fields.
With the launch of "AI-CO," expectations for the advancement of glaucoma medical care and benefits to patients have been expressed by Professor Masaki Tanito of Shimane University and Professor Megumi Honjo of the University of Tokyo.
■ About the ICT Startup League
This is a support program launched in FY2023, triggered by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "Start-up Creation-type Germination Research and Development Support Project."
The ICT Startup League supports startups through four main pillars:
1. R&D Funding / Hands-on Support
Up to 20 million yen in R&D funding is provided in the form of subsidies. Additionally, through hands-on support, the selection committee members who were involved in choosing the league members continue to stay close and promote growth after selection. For companies that committee members are determined to select, a "dedicated advocacy" style support system is built, where the evaluators themselves provide continuous support, such as advice on business plans and providing growth opportunities.
2. Discovery & Development
We provide opportunities for learning and networking to promote the business growth of league members.
We also expand the base by discovering people who aim to start businesses in the future.
3. Competition & Co-creation
Functioning like a sports league, this serves as a positive competitive environment where startups learn together and improve through friendly rivalry while competing for necessary funding (up to 20 million yen). We also provide a place for co-creation where league members can collaborate to expand their businesses through various opportunities such as sessions with selection committee members.
4. Dissemination (PR)
We disseminate the initiatives of league members in cooperation with the media! By letting more people know about their businesses, we aim to expand opportunities for new matching and chances.
