Toshiyuki Yamada
Representative Director and CEO of And MED Co., Ltd. Cardiovascular surgeon, Doctor of Medicine, MBA. After graduating from Nagoya City University School of Medicine, he has been engaged in clinical practice, research, and education as a cardiovascular surgeon. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the Graduate School of Medicine at Keio University and his MBA from Globis Graduate School of Management. He has also been involved in healthcare safety management. While continuing his clinical practice in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine, he founded And MED Co., Ltd. to solve challenges in the healthcare field through the power of technology and business. He is working to implement healthcare solutions in society by bridging the gaps between clinical practice, research, and management. |

| Motivation, Goals, and Ideal World |
Working on the front lines as a cardiovascular surgeon, I have come to realize that there are many challenges in healthcare that can only be seen from within the clinical setting. At the same time, simply researching these challenges and publishing papers about them does not necessarily bring about change in society. I have been engaged in research on surgical education, digital transformation in healthcare, and patient safety, and have also sought to implement these findings in society through crowdfunding and collaborative research with companies. Based on this experience, I recognized the need for a system that takes ideas born on the front lines of healthcare, researches them, and delivers them to society as business ventures—which led me to establish AndMED, Inc.
“DOUSEKI,” which we are currently developing, also stems from challenges I’ve observed during surgical consultations. Even when doctors explain things as thoroughly as possible, it is difficult for patients to understand all the technical terms and vast amounts of information on the spot. I believe that if AI can “attend” the doctor’s explanation, record and organize the content, and allow patients and their families to review it later, we can bridge the gap between the doctor’s assumption that they have explained something and the patient’s assumption that they have understood it.
My goal is to create a world where healthcare, technology, and business are interconnected—so that challenges identified on the front lines do not end as mere research but are implemented in society as sustainable services. I aim to develop systems that bring greater happiness to everyone involved in healthcare, starting from the clinical setting. |
