Hydro Venus Co. 2025

Okayama, Okayama City

We are working to open up the market for environmentally autonomous systems that support smart cities and digital transformation in agriculture and fisheries by utilizing hydropower as a distributed power source for charging ports for drones and other devices, powered by sensing and communication. The core technology is Hydro-VENUS (Hydrokinetic Vortex Energy Utilization System), which generates power through fluid-excited vibrations mimicking fish swimming motions, even from weak currents. It requires no construction for installation and is highly resistant to entanglement by floating debris.

Hydro Venus: Innovative Run-of-River Hydroelectric Power Supporting Field ICT

HydroVenus is the world's first system that generates electricity by vibrating a pendulum using water flow from nearby rivers, agricultural canals, tidal currents, and ocean currents. It is characterized by its ability to produce stable energy at low cost. Unlike conventional propeller-type tidal power generation, it is not restricted to installation at locations with a head difference and can generate energy anywhere there is flow. It also avoids the issue of entanglement with drifting debris, a common problem with traditional waterwheels. It can operate in locations where conventional solar power is difficult to implement, such as deep mountain rivers, underground waterways, and snowy regions. This enables data acquisition and communication in previously inaccessible areas.

Hydro Venus Co. Representative Introduction
REPRESENTATIVE

Representative Takeji Ueda
Graduated from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, Okayama University, and completed the Graduate School of Engineering. After working for four years at a semiconductor cleaning equipment manufacturer, he conducted research and development in quantum semiconductor physics as a researcher at the University of Tokyo. He succeeded in detecting single photons in the 10-50μm wavelength range and earned a Doctor of Science degree. After engaging in international marketing for new products at a major semiconductor inspection equipment manufacturer, he became independent and established Energy Front Co., Ltd. He assumed the position of Representative Director and continues in this role today. Since 2021, he has concurrently served as Representative Director of Hydro Venus Co., Ltd. (https://hydrovenus.co.jp/).
Main Achievements July 2025: Joined the ICT Startup League October 2023: Selected for “J-Startup WEST”
Childhood Dream In my elementary school graduation yearbook, I wrote that I would build machines. I think I intended it as a way to contribute to society through technology.
Influential People, Things, and Events Person: “Professor Isao Tasato, who guided me at Okayama University, and Professor Susumu Komiyama, who guided me at the University of Tokyo”
Object: “iPhone”
Event: “COVID-19 pandemic”
Motivation, Goals, and Ideal World My interest in entrepreneurship stemmed from two perspectives: the desire to solve societal challenges through technological prowess and the pursuit of maximum freedom to bring my vision to life. However, lacking both an immediate idea and the confidence to start a business right after graduation, I chose to join a venture company rather than a large corporation. There, I actively gained diverse experiences and continued my studies as a researcher until earning my degree.
Among the many challenges, I came to believe that energy issues were precisely what I should tackle. From a physics perspective, energy is like a currency of the natural world. Yet, in society, energy is directly linked to environmental problems and is also central to the social implementation of new technologies like IoT, AI, robots, and drones.
The nuclear accident following the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami reinforced my conviction about energy's importance. Feeling I was finally prepared, I started my business. Centering on energy as the core theme, I began initiatives to launch collaborative projects addressing social issues through industry-academia partnerships. During these activities, I met Professor Hiejima of Okayama University and Hydro Venus, leading us to start the company together.
Hydro Venus enables deployment across various scales: mW-level sensor power, W-level communication power, kW-level power sources like drone charging ports and pumps, and MW-level backbone power. We always live near flowing water, yet we barely utilize it as energy. We aim to realize hydropower as a locally produced and consumed energy source deeply integrated into daily life. We also strive to contribute to flood control by understanding river and irrigation networks to mitigate floods and droughts. We want to nurture this into the infrastructure of a new era.
