Blocq, Inc. 2024

Tokyo, Minato Ward

Blockchain is one of the most vulnerable systems to quantum computers. In fact, 25% of bitcoins are already unprotectable from hacking by quantum computers. Energy consumption is also a major problem: 4 billion households' worth of electricity is consumed for bitcoin. We solve these problems with quantum blockchain technology. Quantum blockchain is a blockchain that utilizes most of the existing blockchain as it is, and only the cryptographic generation part is run by a quantum computer. This means that there is no hacking risk with a quantum computer, and the power consumption of the blockchain is less than 0.1%. We are building a quantum-resistant blockchain ecosystem with this quantum blockchain as its engine.

REPRESENTATIVE

Representative Sho Sugiura
After earning his doctorate at the University of Tokyo, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University researching quantum physics, and as a principal researcher at NTT Research, he conducted joint research with MIT, spending a total of more than 13 years as a researcher. Gradually, his passion for using cutting-edge research to help solve social issues grew. To achieve this, he founded Blocq Inc., and is dedicated to developing security using quantum computer technology. His goal is to leverage the power of quantum computers to protect social infrastructure with the highest level of security.

Childhood Dream My childhood dream was to become a scientist and win a Nobel Prize. I did indeed become a scientist, but as I grew up, I found an even bigger dream: to use my knowledge as a scientist to change society. I'm happy that I'm taking on this challenge.

Motivation, Goals, and Ideal World My motivation for starting a business came from my first experience with crypto assets in 2018. At the time, a crypto exchange was hacked, which made me very anxious. Through this experience, I realized the vulnerability of crypto assets and the importance of cybersecurity. As a quantum computer researcher, I founded Blocq to address this vulnerability.
My goal is to develop quantum cryptography technology using quantum computers to protect digital assets. Quantum computers have extremely fast computing power and are theoretically a great technology. However, because of their powerful computing power, they can decrypt existing communication encryption. Quantum cryptography provides security that exceeds conventional encryption technology and is the only way to protect information from cyber attacks.
Our company develops new security technology using quantum cryptography. This allows us to protect digital assets, including crypto assets, from attacks by quantum computers. In addition, this technology can be applied not only to crypto assets, but also to online banking, electronic commerce, and the protection of national-level confidential information.
The world I want to create is a world where all daily communications are protected by the best security technology. We aim to continue providing the latest, most cutting-edge security technology so that all users can use digital services with peace of mind. We hope that in the future, our technology will be used in a wide range of fields and contribute to improving security.
